This year marks a significant milestone for both the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information Innsbruck (IQOQI Innsbruck) and the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information Vienna (IQOQI Vienna), as they celebrate their 20th anniversary. Since their founding in 2004, both institutes have been at the forefront of cutting-edge quantum research, contributing substantially to the fields of quantum optics, quantum information, and quantum foundations.
IQOQI Innsbruck
IQOQI Innsbruck will celebrate its 20th anniversary with the International Conference on Quantum Optics and Quantum Information, taking place from September 17-20, 2024. The conference will begin with an opening event following the FFG/FWF Networking Meeting on September 16th, hosted in the Aula of the University of Innsbruck.
IQOQI Innsbruck has a distinguished history that dates back to the early '90s when quantum research in Innsbruck gained international attention through pioneering experiments and theoretical breakthroughs in quantum mechanics. The close collaboration between university researchers and the eventual establishment of IQOQI by the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2004 solidified Innsbruck’s role as a key player in quantum science.
This 20-year celebration will not only reflect on the institute's rich history ("20 Years of IQOQI: Looking Back" by Rainer Blatt) but also look toward the future of quantum research ("...and the Future of Quantum: Looking Forward!" by Francesca Ferlaino and Hannes Pichler). The conference will include lectures by renowned quantum scientists, engaging panel discussions, and a Science Slam on "Theoretical Dreams and Experimental Reality."

IQOQI Vienna
Simultaneously, IQOQI Vienna will mark its 20th anniversary with the Vienna Quantum Foundations Conference, taking place from September 23-27, 2024. This conference will also celebrate the 60th anniversary of Bell’s Theorem, a landmark in the history of quantum physics that continues to influence contemporary research.
Building on Vienna's long tradition of excellence in quantum foundations, the conference will gather leading international researchers to explore and shape the future of the field. The event will feature 30 invited speakers, numerous contributed posters accompanied by flash talks, and two poster sessions. While the talks are by invitation only, the conference expects around 100 contributed posters from researchers around the world.
The conference will be held at Boltzmanngasse 5, the Department of Physics at the University of Vienna, located in the beautiful 9th district. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a special conference dinner, fostering further discussion and collaboration in an informal setting.
