Recap of the 3rd quantA workshop in Innsbruck

A vibrant gathering of researchers in Innsbruck highlighted cutting-edge quantum science, collaborative insights, and discussions on the future of the field.

On November 7-8, 2024, the 3rd quantA Workshop brought together nearly 100 researchers, students, and administrative partners at the University of Innsbruck. The event marked a key gathering for members of Quantum Science Austria to share updates, foster collaborations, and exchange insights on the latest advancements in quantum research.

The workshop opened with remarks by Gregor Weihs, Director of Research for quantA, and featured an engaging lineup of scientific talks, poster sessions, and discussions on groundbreaking research. Key presentations covered a diverse array of topics, including the control of dark states in waveguide QED by Teresa Hönigl-Decrinis, quantum entanglement measurements related to Earth’s rotation by Rafaele Silvestri, and insights into coherent quantum feedback by Kseniia Vodenkov. A special session highlighted UNESCO's International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025, informing participants about upcoming events and Austria's role in the celebration.

One highlight was the session by Helene Hainzer from the University of Vienna, who introduced an initiative from the VCQ Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology aimed at fostering entrepreneurship in quantum science and technology. Another notable session was dedicated to postdoctoral and PhD researchers, providing early-career scientists an opportunity to present their projects and gain valuable feedback.

In addition to the scientific sessions, quantA’s administrative team met to discuss ongoing management efforts and participated in a workshop on integrating AI tools, led by Dr. Barbara Zach, to streamline daily tasks. These sessions underscored the collaborative effort involved in managing such a large-scale, cross-institutional cluster.

The workshop concluded with lab tours at the Technical Campus, giving participants hands-on insights into cutting-edge quantum experiments and technology in Innsbruck. The workshop served not only as a platform for intellectual exchange but also as a chance to strengthen the bonds within Austria’s quantum science community.

We extend a big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this successful event, and special thanks to the organizing team at the University of Innsbruck for their efforts. We look forward to the continued growth and achievements of Quantum Science Austria as we move towards the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology in 2025.
